LACKAWANNA COUNTY -- Mother Nature is bringing the heat this week. A heat wave is expected for northeastern and central Pennsylvania. A heat wave is three or more days in a row with temperatures 90 degrees or higher.

"Hot, it's just hot,” laughed Ron Reed who was camping at Lackawanna State Park, north of Dalton.

Tuesday, some tried to beat the heat on the water at the state park by boating, fishing, or kayaking.

"It was kind of hot, yes, but I knew that anytime I wanted to, I could just splash myself, so it worked out well,” said Dan Turner of Scranton.

Campers at the park tried to keep their cool, too, by hanging out in the shade.

"We just stay up here in the woods where it's nice and cool and setting here and enjoying it,” said Harry Faux of Fleetville.

Unfortunately, the pool at the Lackawanna State Park is under construction. Park officials are hopeful it will be open sometime next month, along with new bathhouses, a concession stand and splash park.

"I think it's hot and it's going to continue to stay hot for the rest of the week and we're just looking for some level of relief, you know through maybe some water somewhere,” said Ron Jaghab of Clarks Summit.

For those sweltering and dreading the rising mercury this week, some say it’s important to remember that in a few months, it will be a completely different matter.

"I enjoy the heat, I like it, especially knowing the winter is coming before we know it,” said Angela Thomas of Old Forge.
