NORTHUMBERLAND COUNTY -- Not everyone knows the right way to retire an old American flag. A ceremony in Northumberland County wants to change that.
The Milton American Legion hosted a flag retirement ceremony Saturday at the Milton Cemetery.
The sponsors wanted to teach people the proper way to retire an old, torn or worn out American Flag.
Organizers believe it's an important message to get out there since people use their flags more in the summer.
"We have men and women that go and fight for this country for the flag. It's always been a badge of honor that its treated with respect and that's just the way its going to be treated when it is no longer able to be serviced," said Denise Ulmer, Milton American Legion.
Refreshments were served at the American Legion Post after the ceremony in Northumberland County.
