MAHONING TOWNSHIP -- The coroner said a child was killed in a crash on the Pennsylvania Turnpike in Carbon County.

The crash happened just before 8:30 p.m. Monday in the northbound lanes just south of the Mahoning Valley exit.

According to turnpike officials, both lanes were closed due to the crash.

Turnpike officials said one vehicle crashed and six people were injured. Medical helicopters were called to the scene.

State police say the people in the vehicle were two adults and four young children, all from Chester, outside Philadelphia. Troopers say a three-year-old boy was killed when the driver lost control and the vehicle rolled several times.
