NEW CASTLE TOWNSHIP -- A woman is dead after trying to escape her burning home in Schuylkill County.

Investigators say that woman called 911 when her home went up in flames in Schuylkill County, but only made it as far as the kitchen.

The Schuylkill County Coroner identified the woman as Mildred Reedy, 61.

Massive flames engulfed the front of the home on Chestnut Street near Saint Clair around 6:30 in the morning on Saturday.

Authorities say the woman who lived inside died.

Joseph Kazmoran was coming home from work when he saw the flames and dialed 911.

"So I was knocking on doors after I called it in. Nobody was waking up. Eventually the fire department came.”

According to the coroner, Reedy was inside the home at the time of the fire. She also called 911 and told dispatchers the home was burning.

Neighbors say when they looked outside, they saw the front of this house in flames. According to the coroner, that's where the woman’s bedroom was.

"I was just shocked. It was kind of scary,” said Kimberly Szalku of Saint Clair. She lives just two houses down from the scene of the deadly fire and says another fire hit Reedy's home back in December.

Having to witness the same scene all over again, Szalku was sad to hear what happened to her neighbor.

“She was quiet, very quiet lady. In and out, here and there we would see her, but she kept to herself,” Szalku added.

Kazmoran said, “She used to walk up and down the street and some of the guys know her because she could barely walk. She was carrying an oxygen tank and everything."

A fire marshal investigated the fire and ruled it accidental. There is a virtual autopsy being done for Reedy's official cause of death.
