SCRANTON -- Repairs to a broken water valve ended up causing more traffic problems than water problems in Scranton.

Work started early Thursday near the intersection of Luzerne and Meridian Street in Scranton.

Workers from Pennsylvania American Water were there to fix a water valve problem.

"It would have been great if they did it at night while everyone was sleeping because basically it isn't like you would affect any homeowners. It's more business here that is closed during the night," said Pat Colurso, of Colurso's Fruit Market and Deli.

His market is right in the middle of the action on Luzerne Street. He's hoping he doesn't lose water.

"I hope not, you know, otherwise we would basically have to close," said Colurso. "Because with the cleaning and, you know, we do have the bathroom facilities."

Whether you're a business or you live on or near Luzerne Street, if you find you're having problems with your water, there are three water tankers located throughout the area. You must bring your own container if you plan to use them.

Eugene Verdetti owns Roberto's Restaurant and Pizzeria in the plaza on Luzerne Street. He stocked up his stove with clean water and didn't run into any serious problems with water at least.

"It's not just because of the water. We don't have any water problems but because they blocked the road about two blocks away from here."

Traffic had to find other ways to get around the work. It's something some people there have learned to live with.

"Scranton needs a lot of work done and it's getting done finally," said Julio Ruiz.

A spokesperson for the water company says while the goal was for no one to lose water completely, some homes and businesses may have to deal with low pressure or cloudy water.

Repair work was wrapped up by 6 p.m.   Once that work is complete, Pennsylvania American Water urges people to run their water until it's clear.
