KELLY TOWNSHIP -- State police in Union County say two men went on a vandalism and burglary spree early Tuesday morning.

Investigators said the men stole items from numerous cars, tried to set fire to one vehicle, and damaged several swimming pools by slashing the liners.

State police believe 20 to 30 people were hit by vandals on six separate streets in a quiet community near Lewisburg.

Several pools had linings slashed and numerous cars were broken into and items stolen.

“They got into the passenger side of my gram's car and got in the glove compartment. It was all open,” said Tiffany Bardol.

“Opening into cars and broke into cars and they slashed some pools. They even stole firecrackers from my car and they were lighting them off and everything, just causing like chaos,” said Barry Wohlschoegel.

State police have already arrested Johannes Stahl, 19, of Allenwood and say a 21-year old man from Lewisburg will be charged as well.

Troopers were called around 2 a.m. Tuesday when the owner of a car saw a man trying to steal it. When the victim came outside, the man, who police believe was Stahl, ran away.

“Our neighbor's car got, got in the car and hotwired it and tried to steal it and next thing you know, he got out and heard the car started and the kid ran off,” said Bardol.

State police say they were able to track down Johannes Stahl because he reportedly left a cell phone inside the car he was trying to steal.

After being interviewed two separate times by investigators, Stahl admitted he and another man broke into numerous cars and stole GPS units, laptops, and money.

Investigators say Stahl told them he and the other man were drunk at the time, admitting they even tried to set fire to a car by putting a lit piece of paper inside a glove compartment.

“Somebody set fire to the gas tank on the wood splitter and you could see the fire coming out and that's pretty close to the house, and you just wonder,” said Betty Weaver.

“It's just crazy, like this is a nice neighborhood. We don't do anything wrong and just for someone to hit this neighborhood like that, it's just ridiculous,” said Bardol.

Stahl is locked up at the Union County jail.
