TAYLOR -- Foot Golf is exactly how it sounds. Golf you play with just your feet.

But the sport that's budding in Lackawanna County isn't that simple.

The owner at Pine Hills Golf Course in Taylor said he's seeing fewer golfers, So Greg Kozar thought, why not change the game?

"The idea is to get kids at the course and families at the golf course. Whether they're playing foot golf or golf itself, it's a stepping stone to get more people to play golf," Kozar said.

On a par three course at Pine Hills that does not see as many golfers these days, you'll see kids like Greg's 10-year-old son Luke, who would pick up a soccer ball before a set of clubs any day.

"I really love soccer and I'm on a travel team, so I want to improve my kicking," Luke said.

Kids like Luke are the target audience for Pine Hills' new venture: foot golf. The sport started off in Europe, has a foothold on the west coast, and is now showing up in our area.

The rules are essentially the same as golf. Instead of a tee, you "kick off" next to an orange post. Eventually, the ball ends up in what looks like an oversized golf cup.

"It should attract a lot of young kids around here and especially soccer players who want to take a step back and not always be running around," said Greg's daughter Nina.

Putting with your foot is a popular method of cheating in regular golf, but the foot golfers say it isn't so easy with a soccer ball.

Foot golf has been available at Pine Hills for a few months and it's already brought new faces to the fairway.
