WILKES-BARRE TOWNSHIP -- One day after the American women made history in Vancouver, shirts, soccer balls, and other merchandise are selling quickly at local sporting goods stores.

With the U.S. Women's National soccer team taking home its first World Cup since 1999, sales at local athletic shops, like Schuylkill Valley Sports are surging.

Matt Erney of Schuylkill Valley Sports says he had to send in a special order to get additional USA women's World Cup apparel.

"We had a lot of people try to support the red, white, and blue this weekend," Erney said. "We sold out of it thanks to July 4th and their continued success."

Some folks are pumped about the U.S. team's success.

"I was really excited and happy!" said Ally Richard.

"I was jumping up and down!" Stephanie Lewis said.

Stephanie Lewis and her teammate Ally Richards play on a youth league together in Hanover Township. The two even went to camp with Heather O'Reilly, a player on the U.S. women's team. Now, they want a championship shirt, too.

"It'd be awesome! I could show my friends," Richard said.

Schuylkill Valley Sports will have championship t-shirts for purchase over the next few days.
