WEST CHILLISQUAQUE TOWNSHIP -- Holiday weekends are typically the busiest times of the year at campgrounds. Campers at one spot in Northumberland County spent the day Monday packing up and heading home.

Many of the campsites at Yogi at Shangri-La campground near Milton were empty as people left the Fourth of July weekend behind them and headed home.

Diane Bower and her husband from Halifax say they visit there every year with their family.

"We usually try to go over the holidays to make it a long weekend, usually a Friday to a Monday."

Yogi at Shangri-La has nearly 200 campsites and the manager says this weekend for Fourth of July, it was booked solid.

"Typically before people leave a particular weekend, they'll book for the following year because we can book a year out," said manager Bob Miller.

Miller, AKA "Ranger Bob," says Fourth of July is one of the campground's busiest weekends of the year.

"This weekend they started arriving Thursday. We had some departures yesterday and we have more departures today for the weekend."

While many people left after the long weekend, others decided to extend their vacations.

Jeffrey Jaskula and his wife are here until Wednesday.

"We see people come in Thursday and Friday night and the place really filled up a lot on Saturday and Sunday and now everybody on the last few days has been leaving, so now it's quieting down again."

The campers tell Newswatch 16 even though it rained over the weekend, their Fourth of July plans were not washed out and they still had fun.
