SCRANTON -- One of the largest Fourth of July events in the area was held Friday evening in the Electric City.

The Fourth Annual Scrantastic Spectacular drew more than 10,000 folks to Courthouse Square.

Patriotic tunes blasted across the crowd of thousands gathered on Courthouse Square, electrifying the Electric City on this Fourth of July celebration.

“I've heard them before but not on the outside like this,” said Elizabeth Canova of Scranton.

The Fourth Annual Scrantastic Spectacular was hosted by the city of Scranton, Lackawanna County and Entercomm Communications and offered a little something for everyone; from vendors selling trinkets to bounce houses and games for families.

“Oh I love it, we had dinner and looked at the different vendors and very nice,” said Joe Nefak from Atlantic City.

“We won two fish, teddy bears and a shark and now we're eating funnel cake,” said Jolie Rosado from Scranton.

“It's gorgeous, I've been looking forward to it for a month and the weather's perfect, doesn't get any better,” said Canova.

“I think it's wonderful, I think this is probably the second or third time I've been down for it and I've enjoyed myself both times,” said Leo Canova of Scranton.

But of course, one of the most popular attractions was the food.

With so many food vendors, those working the trucks worked the crowds to sell their goods.

“We got the shish kabobs, we have the fresh chicken gyros, beef and lamb gyros, everything is fresh on the grill, please come down, enjoy a great meal, you know,” said Reggie McFarline at the Notis The Gyro King truck.

And after eating all that food, there was a Superhero 5K run to burn it all off.

Runners dressed as their favorite superheroes with the entrance fees going to support CASA of Luzerne and Lackawanna Counties, an adoption agency for abused children.

“What we do is we train adults like yourself to represent abused and neglected kids who have no one else to speak up for them so our tag line is every kids needs a hero but abused and neglected kids, they need a superheroes,” said Rich Pais with CASA.

The Philharmonic will have an encore performance on Saturday July 4th.

That will be held at Kirby Park in Wilkes-Barre at 7:30 p.m.
