STROUDSBURG -- Police in Stroudsburg say a bicyclist was killed early Sunday morning when he was hit by an out of control SUV along Main Street in Stroudsburg.

An SUV collided with a bike in downtown Stroudsburg leaving the biker dead.

Police say the man riding the bike was killed when the driver of the SUV hit him around 3:30 a.m., then dragged him about 100 feet down the sidewalk.

Police identified the victim as Tyrone Miller, 56, of Stroudsburg.

Investigators said the SUV also hit other vehicles, light poles, parking meters, and obliterated a sturdy metal garbage basket.

"I was asleep and then boom," said Terry Langkammer, who lives just yards away.

Police say the driver, a man from Monroe County, was headed east when he lost control.

The driver was released after being taken to the hospital and having blood drawn to determine if he was under the influence.

James Molina of Stroudsburg owns a car that was damaged. He didn't know what happened until he arrived and found it missing.

"I'm not glad I left my car there, but it kind of stopped the impact, I guess, they must have destroyed all the way through here. It is crazy. It is insane," Molina said.

Workers picked up the pieces of the light poles that were destroyed and the garbage can that the SUV crashed into.

Concerns about live wires prevented a number of businesses on Main Street from opening on time, impacting one of Barry Lynch's two restaurants. Just last month he had to close both, during a busy Friday lunch because of a fire on the roof of the hotel upstairs.

"You know at the end of the day, an hour here, an hour there, is not going to make or break anyone, in this case, sadly, there is a loss of life. So that is more of our concern, for the family of the victim," Lynch said.

The victim did not have any identification, so detectives had to turn to fingerprints to figure out who he was.

Police said if the crash had happened a few hours earlier when the bars were letting out, more people could have been hurt or killed.
