MONTROSE -- A little boy killed during Hurricane Sandy in 2012 was remembered for his love of superheroes and animals Saturday in Susquehanna County.
The inaugural "Superhero 5k Walk/Run" took place at Montrose High School in honor of eight-year-old Matthew Stahl, who was killed by a falling tree during the storm.
Everyone who took part in the race was encouraged to wear superhero capes or shirts in Matthew's memory.
"Our motto is: be a hero in your community. When Matthew died, we had an overwhelming support for us, our family. We wanted a way to give back and we wanted to be somebody else's hero," said Rachel Stahl, Matthew's mother.
Money raised at the race benefits True Friends Animal Welfare Center in Susquehanna County.
