FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP -- There's a lot of strawberry picking going on these days at Rohrbach's Farm Market, Bakery & Gift Shop near Catawissa.

For some it's a family affair.

For others it's about getting the best strawberries in Columbia County.

"This year it's fantastic. They're easy to pick, they're sweet because I tasted some. You're not supposed to do that," Nancy Haefner of Danville said.

Haefner and her friend spent the afternoon picking their own fruit at the farm in Columbia County.

Farmer Ronald Rohrbach says after warm temperatures and a lot of rain, strawberry picking season here is almost done.

"Even though it's the end of the season it's still easy picking," Haefner said.

"We had a really good strawberry crop we can't complain about that at all. We had an excellent strawberry crop in spite of all the rain that we've had," Ronald Rohrbach said.

It might be prime season for picking strawberries in Central Pennsylvania, but with all of the rain lately farmers are hoping the rain is still around the next few months.

Too much rain can be a bad thing for the sweet cherries.

They typically peak in the next few weeks.

Rohrbach says the apples and peaches are in good shape with still a few months to go.

He says his main concern with summer starting in a few days is if this rainy spell will continue.

"Our concern now is are we going to dry up in July and August. O f course that's the gamble with growing crops," Rohrbach said.

If you plan on picking strawberries at Rohrbach's Farm Market, Bakery & Gift shop you should head there soon.

Employees say strawberry season could end as early as next weekend.
