DANVILLE -- Downtown Danville has a lot to offer--food, clothing, even hair salons. But what it's missing is a community arts center. That is something the Danville Business Alliance is trying to fix.
"Movie theater, concert and stage venue, perhaps an art gallery, perhaps a cafe will be part of it," Jim Wilson said.
Jim Wilson is the Executive Director of the Danville Business Alliance. He says the group will do a feasibility study on this building on Mill Street to see if it can be turned into a community center. The building used to be a movie theater. People in Danville say they are excited about what the facility could offer.
"Entertainment, musicals," Ralph Swartz said.
"We walk to town all the time, so it would be a great place to visit," Jana Hennessy said.
Even people who don't live in this immediate area say a community arts center will draw them to downtown Danville.
"I think if they came up with some great events, some things that could add culture and art, people absolutely would travel," Kristin McVicar said.
Kristin McVicar lives in nearby Lewisburg and goes to the Campus Theater often.
"I wish them the success of being able to have something similar and bring more people to the town. I think they could definitely use that in this area," McVicar said.
"I think this would be a giant leap forward for the downtown," Wilson said.
Wilson says the community arts center would take about two to three years to open.
