ROSETO -- It was an emotional Wednesday night for students and parents at a school in Northampton County. Folks said farewell at the final graduation.

There were a lot of tears as Our Lady of Mount Carmel School in Roseto marked the end of an era, educating Catholic students from Northampton and Monroe counties for 60 years.

The Diocese of Allentown announced earlier this year that declining enrollment and financial hardships were forcing the closure of the elementary school.

On Wednesday, the last 6th grade class graduated with 12 students.

"It's almost like someone died, like a family is going to fall apart," said Marylou Maloy of Pocono Summit. "It's just sad. You're happy one is gradating but sad the school is closing."

"It's really emotional because this will be the last time I see this class and everything and the school," said Julianna Mojica, class president.

With Our Lady of Mount Carmel closing, the Diocese of Allentown is offering grants to families of the school if they want to send their children to another Catholic school in the diocese.
