DUNMORE -- The heavy rain caused some tough driving conditions for people trying to get around parts of northeastern and central Pennsylvania Monday.

Several roads were left partially flooded out in parts of Lackawanna and Luzerne Counties.

“There was a big wave coming at me and it sucked my car right in and then my car flooded out and it started floating a bit and I had to get out and push it,” said Eric Vosberg of Dunmore.

Vosberg found himself stuck with a stalled car after he drove through a flooded out part of Blakely Street in Dunmore. Heavy downpours in this area caused water to quickly pool.

After Vosberg got temporarily trapped, Dunmore police blocked other drivers from doing the same.

Vosberg says he was able to get his car out of the water on his own, but admitted it was a little scary.

“A huge wave that came by and hit my car, I went into about half of it and then I was like, 'I got to get out of here.' So I threw it into reverse and it like sucked me right in, like my car lifted up,” said Vosberg.

Several roads were flooded out in part of Scranton, too, with cars splashing by on Wyoming Avenue.

“Albright's getting bad. It's rising up real high,” said Greg Scott from Scranton.

There was flooding in Luzerne County as well.

Despite having the northbound lanes of Route 315 covered with water, drivers still flew by in Plains Township.

The rain turned water run-offs into waterfalls and sent shoppers in the Arena Hub Plaza running for cover as they walked to and from stores.

And while some drivers chose to risk plowing through the puddles, others said they found a different way.

“Take another choice. Take another walkway or whatever, always,” said Scott. “You never know how deep it is, right over here on Olive Street you can get stuck in a pond.”

According to the 911 centers in both Lackawanna and Luzerne Counties, there were no major emergency calls due to Monday evening’s weather.
