WILKES-BARRE -- Two families were forced from their homes after flames damaged an apartment building in Wilkes-Barre Sunday night.

Crews were called just before 8:30 p.m. to the building on Monroe Street.

According to the fire chief, two of the four apartments were damaged. The families who live in those apartments will have to stay someplace else.

"I saw family members trying to get out of the windows. Luckily they were able to get out of there," said fire victim Mike Johnson.

No one was hurt and firefighters had the flames out quickly, the chief said.

The city fire inspector is looking into what started the fire.
