DALLAS TOWNSHIP -- This summer will be a little sweeter for folks in Luzerne County: a new ice cream shop opened Friday in the Back Mountain.

The place is owned and operated by college students working on business degrees.

While most college students are taking out loans to cover the costs of higher education, two teens are taking out loans to start an ice cream shop. They opened Frozen Cow in Dallas Township, offering soft ice cream and other frozen dairy treats.

"I'm so excited! It's so exciting, I could hardly sleep last night," laughed Frozen Cow co-owner Madison Ziemba.

Ziemba studies marketing at King's College and created the Frozen Cow logo.

"I kind of did more of the designing the stuff," she said.

Her business partner and long-term boyfriend Justin Brojakowski studies accounting at King's and handles the finances. Together, the sophomore college students applied for permits, purchased equipment, and rented the space to operate.

"We were told it's going to be a lot of work and it's going to be tough, and we were up for the challenge," Brojakowski said.

While the success of the Frozen Cow may depend on the teamwork between Justin and Madison, both have family helping them to prepare for opening day.

"I'm getting bossed around by the young ones now. But it's good, it's all good, just trying to help get done what they need to get done to get open," said Madison's mom Jennifer Ziemba.

And people in Dallas Township are coming to Frozen Cow as quickly as the soft serve is coming out of the machine.

"It's really exciting, always room for another ice cream place!" said Joy Beggs of Harveys Lake.

The couple say they're excited to enjoy summer together, serving cool treats and learning about business outside of the classroom.
