BLAKESLEE -- The first NASCAR race of the season at Pocono Raceway is usually a big deal.  The region gets ready for 100,000 visitors, and if you're hoping to spend NASCAR race weekend in Monroe County, you might want to think twice if you don't already have a reservation for some place to stay.

"We're full and we stay that way until Sunday and Monday. A lot of them stay over until Monday.  A lot of NASCAR stays until Monday so it's good," said Verene Sanchez, front desk manager at Best Western Inn at Blakeslee-Pocono.

The Best Western Inn at Blakeslee-Pocono in Blakeslee is one of just a handful of hotels near Pocono Raceway in Monroe County. Race weekend rates here cost about $185 a night.

"Every year we have NASCAR officials in here.  We have teams.  It's a good time and it also brings us a nice income," said Sanchez.

Many of the hotel and motels in this area have been booked for months, even years.  Newswatch 16 spoke to some people who had to rent a place to stay so they could enjoy this NASCAR weekend.

A group of NASCAR fans from outside Philadelphia say they come in to see the race every year.  After a few years of not being able to book a hotel, they found it easier to rent a house.

"All the officials and drivers, families and stuff, they all stay in hotels up here and there's not many hotels here," said Eles Barnes of Lansdale.

"That's why we rent a house, but it does help the hotels," said Nadine Barnes of Lansdale.

You can always call to see if any hotel or motels near the track have any cancellations.  For more information, click here.
