WILKES-BARRE -- A woman pleaded no contest to embezzling money meant for charity.

Gloria Riegel of Exeter entered the no contest plea Wednesday on theft and conspiracy charges.

In 2011, the state attorney general's office charged Riegel and her husband Joel with embezzling more than a half million dollars meant for charity from a man's estate after he died.

Prosecutors said they had control of the man's estate and used most of the money for themselves. It was supposed to go to the United Way.

Joel Riegel passed away last year.
