COOLBAUGH TOWNSHIP -- For several hours, all people could do at the scene of a deadly crash on Interstate 380 near Tobyhanna was sit, wait, and take the occasional picture.

"I'm actually headed from Boston and this happened right in front of me, so it looks like a total disaster," said Andrew Nyahwa of Boston.

Until about noon, cars heading both north and south directions were stranded, as crews worked on the crash on one side, and helicopters flew in and out victims on the other side.

While the wait was long for many people stuck on Interstate 380, many we spoke with were relieved that they were safe.

"Without a doubt it puts everybody behind but I mean, when there's fatalities, you can kind of bear with it," said Alex Duffield of Clarks Summit.

"We're going to New York City for the next week and fortunately we missed this accident by about three or four minutes, otherwise we might have been in it, so we're thankful to be alive," said Doug Black of Ontario, Canada.

Black was one of those drivers stuck behind it all. He was passing through from Canada and says he's never seen anything quite like this.

"I've done a lot of traveling with the trailers, but very seldom do we see anything this bad. It's sad for the people involved, that's for sure."

"Anything can happen in life, you just can be gone like this, so it's crazy," Nyahwa added.
