EAST STROUDSBURG -- Hospitals in several counties were called on to handle injured passengers from the deadly bus crash in the Poconos.

Officials say four passengers with the most severe injuries were flown from the scene and taken to hospitals in Scranton and near Wilkes-Barre.

The rest of the victims were brought to Pocono Medical Center in East Stroudsburg for minor to moderate injuries and already, hospital officials say, several of them have been treated and released.

A helicopter landed on the roof of Geisinger-CMC in Scranton, carrying just one of the 13 injured in that horrific crash on Interstate 380 in Monroe County.

Once all of those passengers were rescued from inside the mangled bus, they were rushed to hospitals. The two Geisinger trauma centers took in four patients.

According to a spokesperson, Pocono Medical Center in East Stroudsburg took in nine others.

"One was evaluated, treated and transported to Lehigh Valley Health Network for a trauma situation," explained Geoffrey Roche.

Hospital officials say all those victims were brought by ambulance and none was suffering from life-threatening injuries.

"We're talking minor to moderate injuries, but certainly the emergency department was well prepared. Our entire safety and security team has been in touch with 911 center and EMS all morning," said Roche.

The bus was carrying a group of tourists from Italy, so Pocono Medical Center immediately took steps to work with a translation service via phone. But the help doesn't stop there.

"In addition to making sure there's local transportation in case after they're treated and released they need that, they're going to get that. They're going to get food, get hotels, all those aspects."

The driver of the truck that appears to have caused the crash is being treated at a hospital near Wilkes-Barre.

Officials said 13 passengers from that bus crash were taken to the hospital. So far, only a few have been treated and released.
