NORTH UNION TOWNSHIP -- A Zion Grove man has been charged with criminal attempted homicide, reckless endangerment, aggravated and simple assault after state police said he tried to hit a state police vehicle head-on.

State police said 30-year-old Brad Moyer was driving a white Malibu when he purposely slammed into a state police SUV with two troopers inside late Thursday night on Ringtown Road in Zion Grove.

Troopers said it all started when Moyer got into a fight at his home with a family member, then drove off.

Troopers reported seeing Moyer in his car a short time later and began to follow him.

They said they lost sight of the car.

Then, those troopers said they saw headlights.

They said Moyer crossed into their lane, coming at them head on.

The state police swerved.

The vehicles collided, smashing into nearby trees.

"The debris and so on is widespread. I mean it starts way out and it's all the way back here by two houses away," said Jon Teter of North Union Township.

Investigators said the troopers were taken to a hospital, treated and released.

Moyer was injured and hospitalized.

The crash happened in front of the homes of Moyer's relatives.

Many in the community said they know him and his family, so they did not want to speak on camera

"I'd say most people here know Brad Moyer because his parents and all were raised right in that house and even the one where the accident was at when they were real small, were in that house," said Teter.

State troopers said they got a search warrant and they looked inside Moyer's car. They said the airbag control module inside revealed he accelerated 5 seconds before the crash and that he was going 91 miles an hour and never attempted to brake.

"I'm very surprised he's going to be charged with serious charges but it's not the first time he was in an accident," said Teter.
