LACKAWANNA STATE PARK -- There's no swimming in the new Lackawanna State Park pool yet, but there certainly is a lot of activity with workers in the pool, at the new bathhouses and concession area, and the new splash park area.

Everywhere you look there is construction underway, trying to get a new summer fun facility open sometime this summer.

"I think it's going to be awesome. We can't wait. That's why we keep checking on it to see."

Valerie Smith brings her boys from nearby Clarks Summit to see the progress.

"We came to check it out and the kids like to see the diggers, too, so we thought we'd see a little action and see what was going on."

When it's done, in addition to the new pool and other facilities, drawings show what's called a sprayground.

"We're going to have 23 different spray elements, such as water cannons, misting hoops, and little fountains that shoot back and forth. It's really going to be exciting," said park manager Kevin Koflanovich.

While the hot weather is here, you can't cool off in here quite yet. One reason is because of the cold and nasty weather this winter. That delayed some of the progress.

"We did lose some time over the winter. There were still guys working when it was minus 23 with the wind blowing, but they're really kicking in and we're really hoping to get it open at some point this season," Koflanovich said.

"Campers talk about it all the time, 'Is it going to be done by the end of the summer?'"

Katie Faux is a host in the campground, hearing from a lot of anxious campers.

The old pool closed in 2013.

"This is going to be wonderful. This pool is going to bring in a lot more people than they have in the past."

An opening date isn't set yet, but the construction crew and the park hope there will be swimming and splashing by mid-summer.
