POCONO TOWNSHIP -- Memorial Day weekend means summer is "unofficially" underway. Resorts in the Poconos were filled with holiday travelers enjoying an early season getaway.

The Bosi children from New York City are starting off summer with a splash at the Inn at Pocono Manor, after a weekend-long soccer tournament in Delaware Water Gap.

"It's really cold. I really like this pool though and the mountains, especially in the back, and all the scenery. I mean coming from New York City where there's all the buildings, I really like being outdoors," said Ernesto Bosi.

The family decided to extend their stay near Mount Pocono one more day to enjoy the relaxing environment and to take advantage of the beautiful day.

"Yeah, I'm having a great time. I'm really enjoying my vacation," said Oliverio Bosi.

"After our terrible winter, it's actually a beautiful day to enjoy being outdoors, being by the water," said Maria Baquero of New York City.

Busy resorts this Memorial Day weekend and beautiful weather in the Poconos also means big business along the Delaware River.

Chamberlain Canoes owner Brad Sweeney says he's kept rather busy this weekend.

"About 40 groups of people out on the water, ranging from groups of two to groups of 29 was our largest yesterday," said Sweeney.

Kayaks, canoes, and rafts launched into the Delaware River at Smithfield Beach.

Many people stretched the already long weekend a little bit more to enjoy the sunshine and the calm waters at the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area.

It's a great start, business owners say, to a warmer season.

"This is the kickoff to the summer. The crowds have been good. The weather has been fantastic and you can`t really ask for better weather for times to go out and play," said Sweeney.
