DANVILLE -- People lined the streets of Danville, waving flags and wearing red, white, and blue. They watched the borough's annual Memorial Day parade.

"It's great to see the veterans out here marching and everyone out here supporting them," Kris McLellan said.

Kris McLellan and her family live in Danville and started off their day by watching the annual parade.

"It's important to us because we believe in everything our soldiers fight for. My husband was a Navy man and my son is so young I just want to bring him up that way," McLellan said.

After the parade, many people made their way to nearby Memorial Park for Danville's Memorial Day ceremony. Veterans laid wreaths to honor fallen heroes. Veterans from Danville reflected on the true meaning of Memorial Day.

"Honoring those who have laid down their lives to ensure freedom throughout the world," David Curran said.

"It's a very special day for me, a day of remembrance. We can't forget our veterans," Robert Barnhart said.

The veterans tell Newswatch 16 they're very pleased with the turnout--that so many people came out to support the fallen heroes.

"It means a lot to me because sometimes you think they forget, but days like today, you find out they don't forget," Curran said.

"They want to share this very important day with us and that means an awful lot to me," Barnhart said.

A bald eagle happened to circle the area, which some people say made the ceremony extra special.
