SOUTH CENTRE TOWNSHIP -- Sandy Welliver's primary means of travel around the Bloomsburg area for the past 19 years has been an old 1988 Beretta.
"The dashboard's falling apart, the heat's always on. In the wintertime you can't move the car until the gear shift thaws out," Sandy said.
Sandy's daughters Stacy and Melva say their mom couldn't afford to buy a new car, even after starting a Go Fund Me account.
"I know her current car she's about to fall through the floor because of the rust so we just decided to get her a car," Stacy said.
Stacy and Melva took out a loan and split the cost of a 2006 Saturn Ion. Their mom thought her family was just coming over for a picnic, but when she came outside, she got the surprise of her life!
"Oh, my gosh! Thank you so much! I don't know what to say," Sandy said.
"We love her. She's our mom. She's taken care of us and taught us right from wrong and she deserves something," Melva Barge said.
Sandy says she currently only drives to her full-time job and the grocery store, but now she will drive a lot more. She couldn't wait to take it for a spin.
"I'm proud of it," Sandy said.
And as for her old car?
"It's seen its better days," Sandy said.
Sandy says she never wants to see that old car again, so if anyone out there wants a car, the keys are waiting.
