CHESTNUTHILL TOWNSHIP -- The holiday weekend means many folks are shopping for their favorite eats and drinks.
Newswatch 16 found people in the Poconos prepping for the holiday weekend at Heckman Orchards near Effort Friday.
For some folks Memorial Day weekend is the unofficial start of summer, but for Chris Detwiler of Boyertown it's the start of salad season!
“I would have a farm if I could,” she laughed.
And visiting the Poconos means enjoying some fresh local lettuce.
"It tastes like summer,” Detwiler said.
"They are coming in to get vegetables to make veggie platters. They are doing fruit for fruit salads. They are also buying plants to decorate their homes for the Memorial Day weekend coming up," store manager Gail Heckman said.
And in Carbon County, people were coming in and out of Harmony Beverage in Kidder Township all day Friday stocking up on some brew for their holiday cookouts.
“We are selling a lot more of the specialty beers, but we still sell the Bud and Miller, too. Everyone has their favorites,” said Cathy Kresge with Harmony Beverage.
Joeseph Straton of Lower Merion picked up a case of Summer Shandy, a mix of beer and lemonade, and is ready to raise a toast with his neighbors at the lake.
“A lot of friends are coming over and we will be hanging out with them on the beach as well,” said Straton.
Because whether you are quaffing suds or tossing a salad, a holiday weekend is something to savor.
