SUNBURY -- There was a bit of a shake-up in Northumberland County when it came to the commissioners’ race and there will be some new faces leading Northumberland County after the general election.

The Northumberland County commissioners may not see eye to eye all the time, but there are about to be some changes to the board. Incumbent Vinny Clausi decided not to seek re-election and Independent Steve Bridy has until July to decide whether he will run for another term.

Whoever wins the race will get a much smaller salary. With the new salary structure, commissioners will be paid $36,000 a year instead of $61,000.

Republican incumbent Rick Shoch is the only one of the three current commissioners who was on the primary ballot.  He was the top vote getter on the Republican ticket.

"It's been a difficult three and a half years. You hope that your message is resonating with people and it appears that it is. But I think that we're on the verge of turning a corner here in Northumberland County," Shoch said.

On the Democratic side, the top vote getter was Kym Best, a defense attorney in Sunbury.

"Right now we need to win the general. We need to keep going. My plans are stability, transparency, education, and economic development," said Best.

The other two candidates who made it through to the general election are Coal Township Commissioner George Zalar and former Shamokin teacher Sam Schiccatano.
