JESSUP -- Police in Lackawanna County are investigating a case of vandalism that left several people without car windows. The vandals threw rocks and other objects at cars throughout Jessup.

Jessup Police told Newswatch 16 at least six cars had windows smashed Tuesday evening. Some of the cars were on opposite ends of the borough. Police are investigating, but some of the victims think it was all the result of a joy ride that's going to cost them a lot of money.

A.J. McConnell of Jessup spent his morning vacuuming shattered glass from his wife's car. They were both home on Hand Street the night before around 10:30.

"We just heard a big bang and we come running outside. My wife saw that the back window of her car was smashed," McConnell said.

A rock was on the front seat of the car. McConnell called police.

"The police just said they will take a look at it. But then I also told them it`s probably going to happen again. And within twenty minutes, Facebook was blowing up with responses from other vehicles," he said.

Two vehicles were hit on Clarkson Avenue, but there wasn't a rock or anything left behind. The owners suspect the windows were knocked out by a pipe or a crowbar.

"Maybe just kids out to have some fun, looking to cause mischief. Who knows today? With everything that goes on, you don`t know," said another victim, Elayne Cholish.

Cholish and her husband had just gone to bed Tuesday when the police knocked on their door. They spent their day getting a quote on a new back passenger window.

"I just hope whoever did it, I hope the police find them because it is costly for the people who have the damage done to them. That`s for sure," Cholish added.

Jessup Police have received reports of six broken car windows since Tuesday night.
