SALEM TOWNSHIP -- A navy reservist from Wayne County was hurt in a training exercise in California.

Now, he's getting some much-needed help from folks back home.

Debbie Doyle of Hamlin showed off photos of her son Josh and all sorts of commendations he's received as a volunteer firefighter and EMT.

Josh, however, is now the one in need of help. His mom said the Navy reservist fell 20 feet last week while training at Camp Pendleton in California.

"He has titanium rods, plates, screws, just to hold it all together. The doctor says he's strong, young and healthy," said Debbie Doyle.

His mother and twin sister are flying out to visit Josh, hoping to cheer him up.

"Right now he's broken, hurt and alone," said his mom.

Josh Doyle has been serving with the Maplewood Fire and Rescue Company near Hamlin since the age of 14. Now that's he's 20, after suffering such a big setback, Josh and his family are relying on the brotherhood he has across the area to help him when he needs it the most.

"We were able to help pay for the flight out for his mom and sister, so that was a blessing to them, but it gave us a good sense of feeling," said Anita Thompson of Waymart Ambulance Company.

The folks at Waymart Ambulance where Josh used to work, helped collect donations for him after hearing about his fall and long road to recovery.

"In EMS and fire you're family, no matter what, you're family, and Josh is our family," said Thompson.

"They've come together and made it happen, for that I'm so grateful," said Debbie Doyle. "God bless each and every one who made this happen, I don't know what I would do without you."

Josh's mother said he still wants to complete his Navy Reserve training when he's healthy, then wants to come home and continue helping others on the ambulance and as a volunteer firefighter.
