BROOKLYN TOWNSHIP -- A stretch of road in Susquehanna County that was called the worst road in northeastern Pennsylvania last month is undergoing repairs.

A construction crew says they've heard from a lot of happy drivers as they rebuild part of Route 167 and many other spots that needed major repairs along this road between Brooklyn and Montrose.

After weeks of work, a lot of this road in Susquehanna County is much smoother.

"Big difference, big difference, like I said, the traffic thinks it's 81 again now, you know," laughed Ted Daniels of Brooklyn Township.

Daniels' farm is right along Route 167. Almost the entire stretch by his property has been fixed.

"Hopefully they'll make it better for an extended period of time rather than a quick surface fix."

"I wouldn't even travel this road," said Wayne Oakley of Nicholson.

PennDOT called an 11-mile stretch of Route 167 the worst in northeastern Pennsylvania and promised these repairs.

"Yes, it's slightly better. I'm waiting for the finished project to be done," Oakley said.

There is much more to come of this project to fix Route 167 and we found there are still some rough spots to repair.

While this is a state road and PennDOT is on the hook for the repairs here, Cabot Oil and Gas is actually paying $1 million to help with the repairs because its wells along this road draw so many trucks here.

"As a business owner, we have to get people to our business, so it's good to have a nice highway to get them here," said George Conner, the owner of Tall Pines Farm Stoves and Fireplaces.

He's happy with the repairs done so far and says this road was never made for the truck traffic it sees now and needed some upgrades.

"My business wasn't here 40 years ago. I bring in a lot of tractor trailers. So it just gets a lot of wear and it wasn't made for the size trucks we're seeing today."

PennDOT says a larger project to overhaul Route 167 is also going on that is expected to last until the fall, that's after all this emergency work to repair damage after the rough winter is done.
