HAZLETON -- Meet Brody, he's a 5-month-old Chihuahua/Yorkie mix.

The Schwenk family in Hazleton just wants him home. The family thinks Brody got out through a hole in the back door at their home on West Diamond Avenue on April 26.

"I looked. He wasn't in the house. Next thing you know, we went outside looking for him and nobody's seen him. He was just gone," said Tara Schwenk of Hazleton.

Brody belongs to Schwenk's daughters, Kaylee and Riley. Both have special needs. Kaylee has Down syndrome and Riley was only two pounds at birth.

Their mom said the animal is like a therapy dog for the two girls and like a brother to their other dog Deuce.

"It's good for structure for them and good for routine," said Schwenk.

The family reported Brody missing to police and local animal shelters, however, this area of Hazleton has seen its share of crimes and drug problems.

The Schwenk's think someone might have found Brody and stole him.

"He's cute. Who wouldn't want him? But he's theirs. Just bring him home safe. That's all we ask."

The family has posted hundreds of signs around Hazleton asking if anyone has seen Brody, but so far no luck.

"He was always with the kids. He wasn't with me. He was with them. He was theirs. He's not my dog. He's their dog and we just want him home," said Kaylee and Riley's mom.

The Hazleton animal shelter says it's not uncommon for people to steal smaller dogs like Brody because it's easy to just pick one up and put it in a car.

"Unfortunately, we hear about it quite often and now that the weather has broken it seems like reports always skyrocket this time of year," said Kristofer Barkanic with the Hazleton Animal Shelter.

The Schwenk's and the animal shelter are hopeful that Brody will come home soon, safe and sound.

"If anybody is afraid they've held this dog for a little too long and are afraid of being accused of theft or anything, we're more than willing to take the animal, no questions asked."

There is a reward for anyone who finds Brody.

If you think you might know where the dog is, you can call Tara Schwenk at 570-582-9676 or the Hazleton Animal Shelter at 570-454-0640.
