WEST PITTSTON -- With pink blossoms overhead and a pink line on the ground leading the way, the 44th West Pittston Cherry Blossom Festival Parade kicked off under a cloudless sky. The parade marks the beginning of the two-day festival.

Classic cars, fire trucks, and players from the West Pittston Little League made their way through the streets.

Steve Visniski walked the parade in his day. Now he brings his own little big leaguer.

“It`s a West Pittston tradition. They`ve been doing this every year since I was a kid. I was involved when I was in Little League so, it`s nice to see this every year,” Visniski said.

After the parade, folks had a bit to eat or shopped at a few dozen vendors.

“It`s a big help to the community. Cherry Blossom, the Little League, any organization like that, is very helpful to West Pittston borough, especially after what we went through in 2011,” West Pittston Mayor Tony Deniseo  said.

Parts of West Pittston are still recovering from the Flood of 2011. Celebrating the cherry blossoms helps West Pittston natives focus on the new and the pride they have for their hometown.

“My husband and I are going to be moving up here because this is where he was born, where he was brought up. And we want to support West Pittston and that`s why I`m part of this organization, to support West Pittston and to bring it back to life,” Terri Zezza with the Cherry Blossom Festival.

The West Pittston Cherry Blossom Festival continues through the weekend.
