WILKES-BARRE -- Police continue to investigate a murder that happened Friday morning in Wilkes-Barre.

The victim is a man who neighbors describe as a fierce opponent of neighborhood crime, and police believe he was targeted.

Police say Donald Bachman, 49, was shot to death early Friday as he arrived home from work. He was killed just outside his house on Willow Street and now police are searching for suspects.

Police say Bachman was just getting home from his job as a supervising mechanic at a bus company when someone fired several shots and killed him.

A neighbor said he heard the gunfire.

"I was up at four in the morning. It woke me up. There was eight or 10 shots. I'm only across the street," said Tony Perillo.

Neighbors say Bachman watched over the neighborhood on Willow Street in south Wilkes-Barre.  They find it hard to believe that he became a victim of violence.

"I think it's horrible. He was a family man. A family man doesn't deserve something like that," Perillo said.

Neighbors say the house has security cameras outside of it. Newswatch 16 was there as detectives took a video player out of the house, but police aren't saying yet if they recovered any evidence from it.

"It's a shame, because he tried to make the neighborhood a better place," said Bachman's sister, Judi Comisky.

For example, just last month, the house across the street from Bachman's was raided and the tenants evicted after police found drugs inside.

Comisky lives just two blocks away. She tells Newswatch 16 she hopes folks in Wilkes-Barre honor her brother by reporting crime if they see it happening.

"I know I will continue to fight against them. They're not going to take away my neighborhood," Comisky said.

Police are looking over the surveillance video recovered from the Bachman home. There is no word yet if they have identified any suspects.
