Parents of sick children are asking state lawmakers to approve a drug that could help them: cannabis or marijuana.

Tuesday, Newswatch 16 takes an in depth look at how public opinion and legislators are not exactly on the same page.

For the second time in a year, there is a bill (SB3 AMENDED) in Harrisburg that would make it legal for people with certain conditions to use cannabis to treat illnesses like seizures.

A recent poll found nearly 90% of people support the move here in PA.

Newswatch 16’s Jim Hamill sat down with one parent who says her daughter suffers from seizures and she’s pleading with lawmakers to approve medical cannabis.

“What it breaks down to is, have some empathy. Odds are 1/26 people will have a seizure in their lifetime,” said Judy Chernavage of Wilkes-Barre Township. “Could be you, could be your child. Could be your mother, your brother your sister. How would you feel when it hits home?”

We went to the State Capitol looking for answers from lawmakers from our area.

What we found out as well as Judy & Lila’s story will air Tuesday on Newswatch 16 at 11.

Until then, we want to know what you think about the issue.
