MOOSIC -- A busy bridge connecting Moosic to Old Forge is expected to close Wednesday and stay that way for months.

PennDOT is starting work to replace that bridge.

The signs are posted warning drivers that the bridge where Main Street turns into Lonesome Road in Old Forge will be closed as PennDOT undergoes a bridge replacement project.

Construction is expected to last until the fall and residents are holding PennDOT to that deadline.

“Whatever it takes to get it done, just don`t close it and tell us you`re doing it and go, 'Oh, I`m so sorry.' If you`re going to close it, just get it done,” said AnnMarie Coleman.

People living in this neighborhood say they`re already dealing with a bridge closure on the other end of Main Street in Moosic.

That is expected to wrap up this summer.

Sue Jones owns Delia`s Hoagie and Gift Shop right next to that closure. She says business has already taken a hit and now it`s just going to get worse.

“Customers that we`ve had for year [say] it`s just a hassle if they have to come around. To them, it`s a nuisance and it is. We do it every day. We come from Ransom. It`s a hassle,” said Jones.

Now with two bridges closed on the same road within a short distance of each other, residents are preparing for a double headache.

“My son lives right around the corner. It`s going to take me 20 minutes to get to his house and it`s literally two minutes away. Yeah, it`s just crazy,” said Joe Williams.

PennDOT did delay the Lonesome Road bridge work by a year to allow the Main Street Bridge work to get closer to completion.

And some residents say this work is a necessary evil, saying those bridges needed to be replaced.

“Absolutely, it really needs it. Yeah, it`s a must,” said Joyce Leyshon.
