SCRANTON -- Pennsylvania's top law enforcement officer, state Attorney General Kathleen Kane, faces even more problems.

Kane is fighting allegations she leaked confidential grand jury information and lied about it.

Monday, we got a look at exactly why a grand jury recommended she be charged with perjury.

It`s more bad news for the embattled top attorney for Pennsylvania.

Earlier this year, a grand jury investigating State Attorney General Kathleen Kane recommended she face criminal charges for her role in an alleged leak of confidential grand jury information.

Now that grand jury`s report was made public for the first time after being unsealed by a judge on Monday.

In a 27 page report, the grand jury says Kane not only orchestrated the leak but also the cover up.

It`s another major blow to Kane, a Scranton native but for some here in Lackawanna County, they sticking by her side.

“I think she`s phenomenal. She`s a smart lady. I think her career could recover from this,” said Carmel Biko from Dunmore. “I think she`s just got a raw deal. I`m rooting for her. I hope she comes through this. I think she`s a wonderful, very smart, intelligent woman.”

According to the investigating grand jury`s report, Kane intentionally passed on confidential information about a 2009 grand jury.

Then in her testimony about the alleged leak, the grand jury found what Kane said “…was not an honest account of the events…”

That she lied “…to cover up activities undertaken at her direction to release documents” and lied to “…divert attention from her actual role as principal of the leak…”

The grand jury felt Kane's alleged leak “…constituted a breach of her official duty…” and “…constituted an unlawful act…”

Kane has yet to be charged with any crime, but some people say it`s time for her to step down from office.

“It`s just a lot of stuff. If you take it all individually it`s a little, but it`s getting to be a pile and it really has to be addressed,” said George Goeke of Scranton. “She has a lot of baggage. She`s going to have to do something about it, either dramatically or she should just leave.”

The attorney general's office did release a statement, calling this latest development "expected," saying "General Kane continues to maintain that she did not release grand jury material and was truthful in her testimony."

Now it will be up to the Montgomery County District Attorney to decide whether or not to prosecute Attorney General Kane.
