SCRANTON -- The month of May is just around the corner, but it certainly doesn't feel like it.
Folks in the Electric City may need to turn up the electricity to battle Thursday night’s unseasonable cold.
At Scranton High School, it was a day outside for Track and Field. Unfortunately with snow falling the night before and earlier in the day, this spring time sport had people bundling up against the bitter cold.
“It`s freezing. My fingers are numb,” said parent Marvin McCloe.
“When you`re not running it`s a little cold though. The first run that I ran it was pretty cold, but now that I`m warmed up, I`m used to it,” said junior Ariana McCloe.
Over at the Green Ridge Little League Field, the coaches say because of the colder weather they made sure that the youngsters were fully warmed up before practice started.
“Absolutely, we`re taking all the precautions that we should to make sure that the kids are properly warmed up to avoid injuries,” said coach Tom Kennedy. “So we are taking as many precautions as we can to make sure the kids are protected.”
At Main Ave. Ice Cream in North Scranton, workers say when people are freezing, they seldom want a frozen treat.
“No, no, believe it or not, there were people out, but not like if it was warm out. No, this weather`s nasty, not good,” said Diane Malinchak.
With all this talk of wintery weather and snow flurries falling it`s kind of hard to believe that in just roughly two months, Scranton city pools are expected to be open for business.
And with trees starting to bloom, many thought spring had finally sprung.
“It was like 80 this past weekend. It was real nice. I was outside riding my bike. It was great,” said Christian Rainey.
At Marywood University, students say winter`s expiration date is way overdue.
“I hate it. I live in Clarks Summit and there was snow on the ground when I woke up this morning,” said Rainey, a junior. “It`s April, it`s not supposed to have snow on the ground.”
“You know 9 a.m. classes, it`s like, 'Oh great, it`s snowing again for some reason.' And it`s crazy because we have finals in two weeks,” said graduate student Elise Cragan.
