SUNBURY -- A state test that determined if people could receive food stamps is being eliminated.

Officials say by stopping the SNAP asset test, the state would save $3.5 million every year.

The test was originally put in place back in 2012 and would research what applicants owned before giving them aid.

The state sent letters to those in the program explaining the change. It takes effect on April 27.
