DUNMORE -- More than 1,000 runners laced up their sneakers in Lackawanna County to help babies.
The inaugural "Jog for Jude" 5k stepped off around 9 a.m. Sunday from the Dunmore Community Center.
The race was held in memory of Jude Zayac who died last July from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, or SIDS.
Sunday would have been Jude's first birthday.
The race benefits Jude's Foundation, which raises money for SIDS research and awareness.
"As we get more people to understand what we are trying to do, and understand what happened to Jude, and how we are looking to save babies in the future, I think the foundation will continue to grow," said Greg Zayac of Dunmore.
There was a celebration including awards and a memorial balloon release after the race.
