TUNKHANNOCK -- The 12th Annual Spring Film Festival hosted by the Dietrich Theater has been underway for a week.

Organizers of the festival say this is the first year they've had so many Oscar-connected movies which has helped boosted ticket sales.

They say this year the festival is also running for an extra week with three weeks instead of two.

With a stellar list of critically acclaimed and award winning movies in this year spring film festival, movie fans came out in droves to the Dietrich Theater in Tunkhannock.

"I look forward to this every spring, we've been coming for 10 years," said Judy Glibride of Scranton.

Organizers say this is the first year they've been able to snag so may Oscar nominated and Oscar winning films including Still Alice, The Imitation Game and The Theory of Everything.

"This time we were able to get a large group of them together, a lot of the ones that not only won, not only were nominated but ones that won as well," said Ronnie Harvey.

"It's really cool, especially to see some of the movies that we missed and to see some really different ones," said Carol Hayer of Shavertown.

Part of the crowd was there to see Whiplash. The movie that earned actor J.K. Simmons his first Academy Award.

"This is particular film I'm dying to see it, I'm not real familiar with all of his work but I'm just dying to see it," add Glibride. "They always pick everything that is just so on target, the person who organizes this has their thumb on the pulse of the best of the best."

Another new element at this year's festival is that organizers have added an additional week, this is the first time the spring film festival will run for three weeks instead of two.

That extra week of movie showings means extra business for area restaurants.

"It's really awesome for us, you know people want coffee drinks and espresso drinks so it's been really helping, it's nice," said Janine Ruddell from Tioga Bistro.

Olivia Strucnk from Seasons Restaurant said, "It's wonderful because it brings people from out of the community so we're not just getting Tunkhannock based customers, clientele, we're getting people from Clarks Summit, people from Dallas, Wilkes-Barre."

The Spring Film Festival at the Dietrich Theater in Tunkhannock runs through April 30th with four movies showing each day starting at noon.
