PLAINS TOWNSHIP -- It was a night of dining and dancing for a good cause.
The 15th annual Black and Blue Ball was held at Mohegan Sun Pocono in Luzerne County.
About 400 people were there.
"To me, it's a testament to the generosity and the character of the people of Northeastern Pennsylvania and it really is a testament to how wonderful our area is and what a great region this is to live in," said MDA Honoree Judy Price.
The annual fundraiser benefits the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
Money raised goes to help local adults and children with neuromuscular diseases by paying for medical supplies, research and therapies and allowing kids with neuromuscular diseases to go to a special summer camp.
"It's just awesome. He went last year for the first time, he had an absolute blast. He's a daredevil. He was on the zip line, he was on lots of things he normally couldn't do because he can't, he doesn't have the stamina to keep going," said said Amy Sienkiewica of Plymouth. "So they make it great that they can do these things they normally can't."
Sienkiewica's son, Noah, has a neuromuscular disease.
The local MDA helps about 800 clients in Northeastern and Central Pennsylvania. The Black and Blue Ball is the biggest fundraiser of the year for the association. Planning for next year's event will start right away.
"We start right away. Next month we'll meet and kind of recap the meeting with the committee and then talk about what we liked, what we didn't like, our ideas for next year and we start planning right away. We've already booked our date for 2016," said Nicole Jorgensen with the local MDA.
