COOLBAUGH TOWNSHIP -- Police say four students at one Pocono Mountain school are in trouble with the law.

Two students from Pocono Mountain West High School are facing aggravated and simple assault charges. Two others are being charged with possession of a weapon on school property.

It all happened in just one day at the school.

Pocono Mountain Regional Police said it all happened Monday on the West Campus near Mount Pocono.

"I guess you could say yesterday was a busy day.  There were some incidents that were handled by our SRO over at the West Campus that have resulted or may result in the arrest of four juveniles," said Lt. Will Laverty, Pocono Mountain Regional Police.

Officers say a 17 year old, being disciplined in the office, became upset and attempted to leave. Administrators tried to stop the student and were assaulted. The same day, a 14-year-old student in the same situation also assaulted an administrator.

"To me, it`s not so much disturbing, but the concern that these students need to carry with them the respect that these administrators and teachers deserve," Laverty said.

Jeffrey Jones of Swiftwater has a granddaughter who is a sophomore at Pocono Mountain West. He was shocked to hear about both the assaults.

"Yes it is. I can`t, for whatever reason I can`t see a student assaulting an administrator for whatever reason," Jones said.

Pocono Mountain Regional Police said two other students brought weapons onto campus Monday. One concealed a credit card knife. Another student had a comb knife and drug paraphernalia on school grounds.

Joann Ruocchio of Mount Pocono sent her kids to Pocono Mountain School District years ago, but says her grandkids are now home schooled because of violence like this.

"There`s so much violence. It`s just, I just don`t think it`s the best place to send your kids today," said Ruocchio.

The school released the following statement Tuesday afternoon:

“Our school administrators continually remind students of the importance of reporting such things to them, and yesterday's report shows some students are taking that message seriously.”

Officers said one administrator suffered a sprain after Monday's assault. Police say because these incidents all happened on school grounds they carry heavier consequences.
