MOOSIC -- The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders season opener brought excited fans to PNC Field in Moosic Thursday night for all the smells, sights, and sounds: all the baseball action.
"I love baseball. Ten years I've been coming up here for the season opener. I love it up here," said Gavin Judge of Scranton.
"Oh, it's exciting. It's the beginning of a new season, you know? You get to see great minor league baseball. Not just minor league baseball, the New York Yankees minor league farm team," said John Dorohovech of East Stroudsburg.
The night was cold and overcast, but folks did not seem to mind too much.
"I was expecting a warmer night, but as long as the rain holds off, I'm fine. It's baseball," said Ron Bruning of Lake Ariel.
It may not feel like baseball season, but it certainly is. And many said they are hoping for a winning season for the RailRiders.
"I'm excited. We have some talent and I'm ready to get going," said team hitting coach Marcus Thames.
"We think we have a great team this year, so looking forward to it. This is awesome," said RailRiders General Manager Jeremy Ruby.
Last year, the RailRiders held their home opener, also against the Syracuse Chiefs. The weather was warmer then and the RailRiders won the game 7-2.
The RailRiders will play the Chiefs again Friday night.
