MONTOURSVILLE -- Felony charges were filed against the couple from Montoursville, accused of leaving a loaded gun lying around the house.

The woman's 2-year-old son remains in the hospital after shooting himself in the leg with that gun nearly two weeks ago.

Police were called to the house in Montoursville where officials say a child accidentally shot himself in the leg with a gun.

The child's mother and the mother's fiancé were in court Wednesday for leaving a loaded gun in the house where a child could reach it.

Amanda Fry and her fiancé Cody Asher were quiet as they made their way into their court hearings in Lycoming County.

About two weeks ago, police were called to the house the couple shared in Montoursville after Fry's son Zackary shot himself in the leg.

Police say Zackary was left alone watching cartoons and an infant girl was left in a crib while the couple was showering upstairs. That's when the 2 year old got a hold of a .45 caliber gun.

Court papers say the gun which belongs to Asher was left loaded and cocked on the couple's bedroom floor. Little Zackary shot himself in the leg and the bullet lodged in his back.

Zackary's mother now faces a felony count for putting a child in danger.  Asher faces the same felony along with other charges.

"Inexcusable accident and it's something they should pay for," said Zackary Lee, the child's father.

For the past two weeks, little Zackary has been at Janet Weis Children's Hospital recovering. Zackary's father tells us his little boy is doing much better.

"I got the update today that he is going to be able to go to an in-house rehabilitation facility real soon. So, in a about a week," Lee said.

Little Zackary is feeling better and dad Zackary Lee says he's been by his son's side since the accident. The child's mother has also taken time to visit.

"She was always a good mother. That's one thing I will say about Amanda. She was always a good mom," he said.

Lee says he has had open custody agreement with Zackary's mother.

"I knew they had guns in the house. I also knew that they had a gun safe in the house."

Now that charges have been filed, Lee says his main concern is his son.

"He's giggling, he's in there high fiving, he's playing, he's back to being little Zackary."

Bail for Amanda Fry and Cody Asher was set at $75,000 each. They may be released on supervised bail. That means police will make sure there are no guns in the house where the couple is now staying with their other child and family.

Zackary is listed in fair condition. Zackary's dad says he is planning a fundraiser for his son this weekend in Williamsport.

The Cell Block, a bar in Williamsport, will have a donation buckets outside and inside during their Rolling Rock fest this Saturday.

The fest begins at 8 a.m. and will continue till 2 a.m. Sunday morning.

People who want to donate to Zackary can donate at the door without attending the event.
