WILKES-BARRE -- In less than a week, seven people have been shot in Wilkes-Barre.

A man was wounded at an apartment building early Monday morning.

Police in Wilkes-Barre say one man was was hit by gunfire around 1:30 a.m. Monday outside Boulevard Townhomes, in the 200 block of South Welles Street.

Police will not give the victim's name, what started the incident, or if they have any suspects. At the scene, officials only said they believed the injury was not life-threatening.

Boulevard Townhomes are run by the Wilkes-Barre Housing Authority. Authority employees were at the apartment where the shooting took place. They declined to speak on camera, but they did say they are taking steps to make sure Boulevard Townhomes are safe for residents and visitors. Employees said they intend to help in the investigation.

There are security cameras. So far, no one is saying if those cameras might help catch the shooter.

A resident, who declined to be identified, says even after a shooting, he feels safe there.

"To me, it's fine. It's pleasant. I never had any problems with safety, to me, my kids, my son plays outside."

He said he has no plans to move out.

There were two other people shot Saturday afternoon at Interfaith Heights apartments, off Coal Street. A man and a woman are in the hospital with what police call serious injuries. No names have been released and no motive has been given.

We do know police seized a red SUV, and Newswatch 16 was there when it was taken inside the Wilkes-Barre police headquarters garage.

In the past week, there have been five shooting incidents in Wilkes-Barre. Seven people were hit and two died.

Mayor Thomas Leighton's news conference is set for 1 p.m. Monday at police headquarters.
