MOOSIC -- The lights are back on for most of the nearly 1,800 homes and businesses that lost power Friday morning in parts of Lackawanna County.

The power went out around 9:30 a.m.

Traffic lights went out and the loss of power at the Turkey Hill on Birney Avenue in Moosic left drivers unable to top off their tanks with gas.

Six retailers and a gym at the Birney Plaza also could not do business.

The manager at Long John Silver's said turning customers away was "heartbreaking" on what is the busiest day of the year for the restaurant.

The power came back on around 11:30 a.m. and the restaurant was able to re-open for lunchtime.

The traffic lights came on about 15 minutes before the electricity was restored to nearby homes and businesses, just in time for some of those area restaurants to get some customers on Good Friday.

PPL has not said an equipment malfunction caused the outage.

The utility company said the last of the affected customers had power by 2 p.m.
