SCRANTON -- The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection said Monday that a tire business in Scranton has met a deadline to comply with an order regarding contamination at a bridge construction site.

Crews stopped construction on the Rockwell Avenue Bridge last week when a petroleum-based substance was found in the ground water.

Kelleher Tire on West Market Street had until March 30 to submit a plan that will trace how motor oil from a storage tank ended up at the construction site.

According to DEP, Kelleher Tire has hired an environmental cleanup business to remove an oil tank that might have caused the contamination.

DEP said the cleanup company will remove the storage tank, test the soil, and investigate if the contamination came from the tank at Kelleher Tire.
