POTTSVILLE -- Family members of convicted murderer Mumia Abu-Jamal tell us he has been moved out of prison and to a hospital in Schuylkill County.
Abu-Jamal is a former Black Panther who killed a Philadelphia police officer in 1981.
His family said he is being treated at Schuylkill Medical Center in Pottsville for complications related to diabetes.
He has been an inmate at the state prison near Mahanoy City.
In the years since his conviction, many activists have taken up his cause, saying his conviction was based on race.
Abu-Jamal was on death row for years but had his sentence changed to a life sentence in 2011.
His family members said armed guards are both inside and outside his hospital room.
